Savi Scout and Connections

03-29-2020 My client and friend Anne and I spoke on FaceTime today, and I got to see the dogs’ confused faces when they heard my voice, but didn’t understand when they couldn’t find me. It was sweet to see them both get so excited to hear me, since it’s been a couple of weeks now since I have seen them, and they are such great dogs to train. It was nice just to talk about what is going on in the world a bit, talk about the progress that both dogs are making as Anne takes them out for walks together on UCSD where there is lots of space now that the schools are closed, and have a bit of variety in conversations. Mike is wonderful, don’t get me wrong, but the dog world as conversation is not in his wheelhouse, so it’s fun to get to talk dogs and life, etc. I was able to attend a special book club meeting with my students from the upcoming Karen Pryor Academy group from the Dublin area, which was fun and interesting since it was led by Ken Ramirez, per his new book. Lots of good questions and stories by Ken, as always, and it was a nice dip into the dog training waters beyond just my own dogs. Later, I gave a two hour webinar to my current Alpine, CA students on barking issues. It was fun to offer it, and I like helping others learn how to compartmentalize a problem behavior and dissect it into more manageable slices. I was exhausted after all was said and done, and then Tiffanie and Dorian came home, and that added an extra layer to the tired. That is still the worst of this right now—fatigue. Tomorrow is a day for speaking with the surgical team, setting up a time for the Savi Scout to be inserted and making sure I have everything in place for Wednesday. It’s really hard right now with the Covid19 virus starting to build in the San Diego area, and I’m glad I’ll be getting ahead of the peak here in our area. We are getting more cases everyday, and have now had two deaths, so it’s building up. It was really hard to find good information about the insertion of the Savi Scout. I found that it’s similar to the core-biopsy needle, but it was a woman’s blog, that is also tracking her breast cancer journey, https://journeythroughmycancer.com/2019/01/25/savi-scout-attempt-2/ talked about the actual process of placing the tracker, including the use of a CT and mammogram before and after the placement to ensure it was in the right place. Thanks to her for that, as I’m a “need to know” kind of person, and I’m much more relaxed if I know what is going to happen, especially in a world so new to me. Dealing with the Covid19 is another story. It’s scary on so many levels, and even scarier for those with undying health issues. I just wish we could get straight answers about what is happening, as we just got the Federal order to stay at home until April 30th.
